Culla & Ares del Maestrat
Culla is the city that best represents medieval Spain. This city was also selected as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The sights in Culla tell the story of its past. It was built by the Moors and later taken over by the Templars, who made the castle a top priority. Currently, the fortress is in ruins, but its remains can still be seen next to the tower Torre del Frare Pere.
Ares del Maestrat
The town of Ares del Maestre sits on the top of a rocky hill, in a privileged location that overlooks the beautiful and rugged landscape of the region of El Maestrazgo. The beauty of Ares del Maestrat lies not only in its elevation as it is 1195 meters high, but also in its historical and artistic legacy: the prehistoric paintings discovered there were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the most prominent of which are found in La Cova Remigia.
