The Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, which is known as El Botànic, was founded in 1567. For 200 years, it was only a cultivated plot used to grow medicinal plants. The construction of the first greenhouses and shade houses was led by José Pizcueta. These facilities were used to protect exotic plants from winter cold, summer sun and high temperatures.
The Botanical Garden is a living museum located in the historic center of the city at number 80 of Calle Quart. It is open to the public and aims to bring people into contact with the plant world by promoting its study, teaching, dissemination and conservation, as well as its sustainable use. The Garden maintains a scientific collection of living plants, preserving a historical legacy of continuous cultivation, which includes majestic trees and historic buildings. In addition, it has the responsibility of maintaining the tradition of botanical gardens in Valencia, which dates back to the sixteenth century, when the university created a garden of physics with the aim of teaching medicine.
In the heart of Valencia, this exotic place, which covers about 4 hectares, we can travel to any continent, imagine exotic or distant places, or see up close the plants that populate the Mediterranean landscape, which reminds us of the great biodiversity of our planet. A plant world of great richness that the botanists who work in the Garden make you discover, they participate in various research projects focused on the conservation of rare, endemic or endangered plant species of the Mediterranean, the conservation of natural habitats and knowledge of plant diversity.

El Jardí Botánico de la Universidad de Valencia, conocido como El Botànic, fue fundado en 1567. Durante 200 años, sólo fue un terreno de cultivo utilizado para cultivar plantas medicinales. La construcción de los primeros invernaderos y casas de sombra fue dirigida por José Pizcueta. Estas instalaciones se utilizaron para proteger las plantas exóticas del frío invernal, el sol del verano y las altas temperaturas.
El Jardín Botánico es un museo vivo situado en el centro histórico de la ciudad, en el número 80 de la calle Quart. Está abierto al público y tiene como objetivo poner en contacto a las personas con el mundo vegetal promoviendo su estudio, enseñanza, difusión y conservación, así como su uso sostenible. El Jardín mantiene una colección científica de plantas vivas, conservando un legado histórico de cultivo continuado, que incluye majestuosos árboles y edificios históricos. Además, tiene la responsabilidad de mantener la tradición de los jardines botánicos en Valencia, que se remonta al siglo XVI, cuando la universidad creó un jardín de física con el objetivo de enseñar medicina.
En el corazón de Valencia, este exótico lugar, de unas 4 hectáreas, podemos viajar a cualquier continente, imaginar lugares exóticos o lejanos, o ver de cerca las plantas que pueblan el paisaje mediterráneo, lo que nos recuerda la gran biodiversidad de nuestro planeta. Un mundo vegetal de gran riqueza que los botánicos que trabajan en el Jardín te hacen descubrir, ya que participan en diversos proyectos de investigación enfocados a la conservación de especies vegetales raras, endémicas o amenazadas del Mediterráneo, a la conservación de los hábitats naturales y al conocimiento de la diversidad vegetal.
Para que los visitantes participen activamente en el Jardín, a lo largo del año se realizan numerosas actividades educativas y culturales para todos los públicos. Entre la ciencia, la cultura y la naturaleza, ¡venga a descubrir el Jardín Botánico de la Universidad de Valencia!
